Fletcher is an adorable tiny Pomeranian! He is about 7 pounds and about 8 years old. It's hard to believe that Fletcher is not a youngster when you see him in action! He is active, alert, intelligent and house-trained. Gets along amazingly well with other dogs, he even likes to play with puppies! We bet he'll like cats too. Like many Poms, he had terrible teeth- the only way to 'fix' his dental disaster was to pull all of his remaining teeth. He manages just fine without his teeth. Fletcher will be a truly a joyful addition to the person lucky enough to adopt him!

Fiona is a pretty orange pommie. She is a loving, active adult dog, weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds. She will be even more beautiful when her coat grows out, with her little foxy pointy face. She's a little scared now, but not at all snappy, just a little shy and withdrawn around strangers. That maybe due to the fact that she is a brand new rescue out of the shelter, where she spent about 3 weeks ... that would make anyone wary we think.
Now that she is in a loving foster home, she will very likely become a completely different dog: more out-going and confident.

Edward is a stunningly handsome 3 year old, 13 pound pomeranian. We rescued him from the shelter afterhe was he found on the street having been hit by a car. He had severe pelvic fractures and a torn ligament in his ankle. It took 3 surgeries to get him fixed up and now he is resting and healing and well on his way to full recovery. What a trooper!

Even when this cutie pie was in a great deal of pain he was sweet and friendly. He seemed to know that FINALLY he was being taken care of by people who loved him. For the next 6 weeks, until June 10th, he will need to have restricted activity: leash walks only, and no rough and tumble play with other dogs, so that he can have time to completely heal. His prognosis is excellent! Our fantastic surgeons at ASEC expect a full recovery.

He's currently being cared for in a wonderful foster home. If interested in adopting please know that you will need to continue with his 'restricted activity' until the 6 week period is up (approx. June 10.) Edward can be SHOWN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO QUALIFIED APPLICANT, but will not attend our public adoption events.

Bongo is sweet and friendly and will smother you in kisses if you let him. He has tons of energy and will enjoy an active home, preferably with a yard and someone to toss a ball for him! Bongo certainly does not lack in the personality department- he is so much fun and always jolly and joyful. About 2 years old and about 70 pounds. A very strong powerful dog, Bongo should be adopted by someone that can take him through an obedience class and should be adopted by someone that has experience with large breed, bully breeds and preferably some experience/knowledge of the English bulldog breed.

• WEIGHT: About 70 pounds

• AGE: Very young- only about 2 years

• HEALTH: Very healthy. As is very common for the bulldog breed, Bongo has a skin condition. It’s an infection/allergy related topical condition resulting from neglect in his previous home, poor diet and environmental allergies. Quality food, fish oil supplement and medicated baths will keep him healthy and comfortable.

• CIRCUMSTANCES: Rescued from the shelter. He came in as a stray and nobody claimed him. Clearly whoever owned him did not take good care of him. But he wasn’t mistreated, he is very social and has tons of personality.

• REQUIREMENTS: Bongo needs to be adopted by someone that is relatively active – he needs plenty of activity and exercise. He will not be a good apartment dog, he needs a yard. Experience with big strong bully breed type dogs is a plus. Adopter needs to do a basic obedience class with Bongo as he needs to learn basic manners. If the home has children the adopter should understand and be prepared for the kids to be knocked over. Not because Bongo is aggressive, just big and strong and energetic! He would probably do best as an only dog or with a large non-dominant female dog.

Bishop is a three to four-year-old black-and-tan doxie mix who weighs about 20 pounds. We think he's mostly dachshund with a smidge of something else: He is slightly bigger than a tweenie doxie, and he has long legs, which make him a great choice for someone with stairs in their home. Affectionate, cuddly and sweet, Bishop is an energetic doxie who needs to play and exercise a lot. Bart is a very unique looking 6 month old 22 pound puppy! He is short/low like a corgi, he has wirey hair like a terrier and he has the blue merle coloring of a Queensland Heeler. Bart is an exceptional puppy! He loves everyone he meets- 2 and 4 legged. Very social, outgoing and well adjusted. He is VERY puppy and will get into things if left unattended (especially your shoes!) But he's a great dog and when he does something naughty and his foster mom tells him so he seems to understand and takes his 'time-out' like a trooper. Barney is a super handsome boxer/bulldog. He is boxer from the tip of his nubby boxer tail all the way up to his neck. His head and face look to be a boxer/English bulldog mix. What a good looking dude!!! Still very young, Barney has lots of energy and likes to play. He is a strong powerful dog, but very friendly and outgoing. Barney loves to go for rides in the car and enjoys outdoor activities. He likes to have his belly and butt scratched and he will give you lots of kisses! Barney just started a basic obedience class and is doing very well. He’s a fast learner and seems to really enjoy the training.

• WEIGHT: About 80 pounds – a big solid hunk of a dog!

• AGE: Very young- only about 1-2 years

• HEALTH: Very healthy. No known health issues.

• CIRCUMSTANCES: Barney was turned into the shelter when his family had a baby. It is our understanding that he lived in the yard so it is unlikely that he is housetrained. He’s seems completely fascinated by almost everything, as we believe he probably never was walked, never left the back yard until he was dumped at the shelter. It will be an amazing transformation to watch this dog blossom into a well trained, well socialized guy!

• REQUIREMENTS: Barney needs to be adopted by someone that is relatively active – he needs plenty of activity and exercise. He will not be a good apartment dog, he needs a yard. Experience with big strong bully breed type dogs is a plus. Adopter needs to continue with the basic obedience class if he has not completed it by the time of adoption. If the home has children the adopter should understand and be prepared for the kids to be knocked over. Not because Barney is aggressive, just big and strong and energetic!

Ariel is a cutie-pie tri color doxie pup. She and her siblings were rescued from the Bakersfield shelter. She is only about 5 months old and has lots of puppy energy. She will need plenty of exercise, entertainment and training as all puppies require. We would like to place her in a home with another dog- either a home that already has a dog or together with one of her litter mates. Preferably someone who has experience with the doxie breed.

More About Allie

Allie is a beautiful and super sweet lab mix, possibly with some great dane (due to her size) and maybe a sprinkling of shepherd. This wonderful dog was given up by her family after they lost their home. Fortunately, a nice relative stepped in to prevent her from going to the pound and contacted us and we were able to help. Allie was raised with children and with some basic obedience, she'll be an amazing addition to any family. She is about 80 pounds and about 3 years old. She is a really good natured dog and would make a great family pet. She is wonderful with everyone she meets- very friendly and outgoing.
